Government Motors

The more I watch the government bailout process the more familiar it looks.  It finally occurred to me they are using public schools as the model.  Stay with me here:
  • Wasteful financial support on an entity that couldn't survive on its merits that is
  • Dominated by a powerful union that pays off elected officials for
  • Monopolization by government fiat. (sorry about the pun)
  • All for the common good. Of course.

One would expect we can expect similar results in terms of quality.

Behind the strong arm of government, the union (management, same difference) will not have to concern themselves with results.  Like schools, because of their ability to influence elections, the status quo will be protected regardless of performance.

That's just how it's gonna be, or they'll install a congressman or Senator or Governor who gets it, just like they do on countless school boards across the country.  Capeche?

Enforcement?
Simple.  Now that (A) most lenders are beholden to government one way or another and (B) government is determined to make its car companies survive, er, I mean payoff their masters, then (C) good luck getting a car loan on aToyota or any non government preferred vehicle. Second, a little less blatant, the domestic car tax deduction.  You don't think?

or the Chicago way...
UPDATE: A Lawyer representing aggrieved Chrysler bondholders says settlement
"orchestrated entirely by the U.S. Treasury and foisted upon the debtors."

... lawyer for the group, Tom Lauria, said some identified publicly in the politically charged reorganization have received death threats "which they perceive as being bona fide." Those lenders have notified police and the FBI, he said.

This guy ain't careful he's gonna wake up to find a horses head in his bed...

Wanna taste of Obama's devotion to Unions.  Look here to see what he did to his own.

Barack Obama and the DC School Voucher Program.

Yes, these are related topics, for those who are willing to see.

As the owner of a big honkin Suburban, which we enjoy a lot, it sorta saddens me to know it will be the last GM I ever own, and in fairness, Chrysler is also out of the running.  No free market capitalist can justify not boycotting these companies.

And while we are at it, am I the only one who finds it the height of irony that Chevrolet's recent ad campaign is, are you ready for this? "TOTAL CONFIDENCE"  Are you kidding me?

Not to worry though, I heard it straight form the chosen one's mouth, "the U.S. government will back all warrantys".

Jay Leno, a very pretty serious car buff, had possibly the best rejoinder to that asininity when he said "just imagine, you get the efficiency of government and the trustworthiness of a mechanic!"

What could go wrong?  All I'm saying is, if you want a hint, look at the model.

One more thing.  It would give them a lot more credibility in my book if Hannity and Limbaugh would stop accepting millions in ad dollars from GM.  Just sayin...
