About Last Night
Hillary May Be Luckier Than She Knows
It looks as though, at long last, the Clinton machine is running out of gas. Given recent history, and all due apologies to my fellow feminists, even in defeat she ended up a lot better off than a couple of other gals who wanted to run with the boys....
First there's Benazir Bhutto.
Assassinated. Contrary to her lofty rhetoric about improving Americas image abroad Ms. Clinton would be about as welcome in the Muslim world as was Ms. Bhutto.
and exhibit B
Eight Bells
Who, like Hillary, did a good job of keeping up with the boys but in the end, well, dog food, or cold cuts if you live in ceratin parts of Europe. (I actually tried a horse meat sandwich in Belgium once, not bad, a lot better than he pickled eel)
So in the scheme of things she has her life, and to steal a cliche about to be overused in graduation speeches throughout the land later this month, her whole life in front of her, maybe as VP, maybe as Senate Majority leader, maybe as a replacement for Ted "hic" Kennedy as Lion, or as in this case Lioness, of the Senate. (there may be real potential there as evidenced by her ability to down shots of whiskey)
Now we need to focus on his Hopiness.
From his victory speech last night wherein he warns fellow travellers of the nastiness in store from eeeeevil Republicans
"Yes, we know what’s coming, I’m not naive. We’ve seen it already. The same names and labels they always pin on everyone who doesn’t agree with all their ideas. The same efforts to distract us from the issues that affect our lives by pouncing on every gaffe and association and fake controversy in the hope that the media will play along. The attempts to play on our fears and exploit our differences to turn us against each other for pure political gain – to slice and dice this country into Red States and Blue States; blue-collar and white-collar; white and black, and brown."
The call for inclusivness is pretty rich in irony coming from a guy whose 90% of the black vote in North Carolina is the only reason he won. Dude, you may not be naive, but you sure must think we are.
The white guilt candidate gets to have it both ways, renouncing the very divisiveness he exploits to win. Yet another form of audacity. But I guess division is OK so long as it works for you....and of course my pointing this out is just a "distraction" and you know, racist. And of course the lap dog press just keeps slurping it up.
If he loses it's because we are a racist country. If he wins it's because we want to move beyond racism. Either way his vision of America is decidedly, er, darker, than mine.
The Nation magazine, the bulwark of the liberal press, ranks Obama as the most liberal Senator, (to them that's a good thing) based on his voting record. You can actually see that list here, thanks to Hugh Hewitt at townhall.com/blog Here's the "key vote" list on which the rankings were based.
The guy has boundless audacity. Rmember that when he is called to task for these votes and tries to recatagorize them as "distractions". When McCain starts to shine a light on his actual record his hope is gonna be for gaffs to change the subject. The only question is will the gullible be as willing to overlook his actual record as they are his gaffs.
