Voter ID

This was my letter to the editor published in the Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It was a response to an inane editorial accusing voter ID proponents of deliberately suppressing the votes of poor and minority voters.  What a bunch of crap.  First of all, any proposal i have seen provides the the ID for free.  Secondly, if it's no more trouble to prove your identitiy to vote than it is to rent a video, AND THAT"S JUST TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE TO OVERCOME, you don't want to vote anyway, so stay the fuck home and shut the fuck up.

The tire slashing reference was about the Democrat thugs, one of whom is the son of my U.S. Representative, who disabled Republican get out the vote vans on the morning of the Nov 2004 elections.  These are the ones who want to prevent clean elections because dirty elections work to their advantage.

Clean elections is the objective

The mind boggles at how the Journal Sentinel and other voter ID opponents automatically assume nefarious motives of voter ID advocates ("A transparent effort," Jan. 9). All we want is clean elections.

An independent investigation found that in the 2004 general election in Milwaukee, more than 200 felons voted illegally, and more than 100 people voted twice, used fake names or false addresses or voted in the name of a dead person.

The need for cleansing a system so open to chicanery is so obvious that the more reasonable question is to ask why voter ID opponents insist on perpetuating dirty elections?

The comparably teensy number of eligible voters who might miss an election because of a voter ID requirement is completely overwhelmed by actual voter fraud routinely.

This begs another question: Who stands to gain most by maintaining the status quo? The answer is as easy as surveying the 300 nabbed in 2004, and chances are, they are of the same political stripe as those who looked the other the way while party operatives slashed tires.
