The Week

Not a lot going on.  Suffice it to say Harry Reid is doing more to marginalize the left than I or any other blogger could so as they say, when your enemy is busy shooting himself, stand clear and let him at it.

Speaking of which, what's a bystander to do when Hamas and Fatah are going at each other, I mean other than provide ammo to both sides.  Kinda like watching the Vikings play the Bears, knowing the only frustration is that there is no way for both sides to lose.

Two of my favortes liberals had interesting comments this week;  The always interesting Camille Paglia weighs in at Salon on a variety of political and cultural issues.  Her columns are lenghty cause she only does them monthly but she also covers a wide swath.  That said it almost always worth a full read, though I admittedly skim the pop culture parts.  And hey, where else you gonna find a reasonable Democrat lesbo libertarian perspective?
A snippet of her musing on the Democrat debate:

she overplayed her hand and began to intrude and domineer. The men sank into passive torpor. What was surfacing in Hillary was the old family psychodrama of the bright, brittle, high-achieving daughter contemptuously outflanking her befuddled, resentful, mediocre brothers at the dinner table. It wasn't a pleasant sight

The other bright liberal star is the always interesting Christopher Hitchens who somehow managed to tie Paris Hilton to Reggie Walton, the judge in the Scooter Libby trial.  That takes some doing, or about a half a quart of whiskey, but Hitch is always up to the task, on both counts.

tidbit: There must be more than one "gossip" writer who has already rehearsed for the day that Paris Hilton takes a despairing overdose. And what a glorious day of wall-to-wall coverage that will be!

and
... an even more acid piece of creepy populism, in the form of an order from Judge Reggie Walton, who poured his witless sarcasm on those who had filed a brief in support of Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Would such "luminaries," sneered Walton, be equally available for other litigants? It's not his job to arbitrate such a question, and he seems not to understand the law, but if his words mean anything, and from a federal judge at that, they appear to mean that to be a public figure is to risk double jeopardy in the courts.

Hitchens as always, adds particular depth to the meaning of gimlet eyed perspective.  Certain levels of clarity sometimes require an emptied bottle

Going to see Newt Gingrich this afternoon.  Will report here later.

By the way the book at the left here can be purchesed from Amazon.  I get a small percentage of any sales linked through this site so if you are on the market for books or music, come see me first and help keep this site alive.

Plans are to have a book shelf/library page for a wider selection.  I am also open to suggestions.
